The Power Play vote represents the spread of political clout in the Republic. When you win a Power Play vote, you get 1 point of power and the Edge. (In a game involving three or more players, Tie-breakers are then re-assigned to all your opponents, starting to your right with one Tie-breaker and continuing in increasing numbers.)
When you win a Power Play vote, you also choose a Power Play option. A menu will appear giving you 10 options. Click on any of the options to get a text description of what it will give you. When you have decided which Power Play option you'd like, click Okay.
The different Power Play options are:
- Declare War: The galaxy goes to war, and a bomber is created at your homeworld. (This option is available only if the galaxy is currently at peace.)
- Broker Peace: War in the galaxy ends, and you get +3 destiny. Though any bombers already built will remain in play, the bombardment phase will be skipped each turn, and no new bombers can be built. (This option is available only if the galaxy is currently at war.)
- Hire Assassin: An Assassin zap card is placed in your hand. You may play it during your planning phase to destroy a target hero at a planet. You get -5 destiny when you do so.
- Sweeping Changes: A Sweeping Changes zap card is placed in your hand. You may play it during your planning phase to make a target player discard all the cards in his hand, then draw the same number to replace them. If you target an opponent with this card, you get -10 destiny.
- Tip the Balance: A Tip the Balance zap card is placed in your hand. You may play it during your planning phase to target a planet where you are tied with another player for the most local influence. That planet comes under your control.
- Council Intervention: A Council Intervention card is placed in your hand. You may play it during your planning phase at a target friendly planet. Until the end of the turn, conquering, production, and destiny generation cannot take place there.
- Purchase Black Market Tech: You permanently get +1 tech of your choice. You also get -3 destiny.
One player must win the Power Play vote every voting session. In the event of a tie in a two-player game, the player who does not have the Edge will have one Tie-breaker, thus winning the vote. In a multi-player game, ties are awarded to the player with the most Tie-breakers.
Victory conditions are checked after a Power Play vote is awarded.
